A few shimmers & shards from the first 10 days of September
Though I have not been writing, I have been noticing.
I love the seasonal shift that occurs in New England. Warm days, cooler nights, colorful foliage. It’s our best season and a yearly reminder of old giving way to new.
Historically September has been a month of personal shifts, ranging from subtle (going back to school as a child), to life-changing (becoming a mother), to devastating (learning of a family member’s infidelity) and many big and small things in between.
This year, the first twelve days of September have felt more like twelve years for reasons I won’t go into now. I’ve been many things: distracted, worried, recovering and caretaking all while working to contain a spike in anxiety.
Though I have not been writing, I have been noticing. When something strikes me I take a photo and put it in a shimmers and shards folder in my photo app. I will share a few here that I hope to get back to later.
Here’s to a new season of writing and noticing and being human!
Shimmers & Shards
September 1st: sunlight and shadow dancing on book pages
September 2nd: sunlight illuminating the crown of a tall pine, backlit by swirly silver clouds and little craters of blue sky
September 4th: Bloody pieces of a broken, infected wisdom tooth displayed in a small blue rectangular enveloped with a clear sealed front
September 8th: Bees pollinating native Asters dark pink and yellow-orange blooms
September 10th: A purple sticker that says “Be Creative,” placed on a mother’s blue and white floral t-shirt by her almost-seven year-old son.
Those are incredible images! Wishing you soft landings as you navigate bumpy terrain. You are living the work you will write later- nothing is wasted.
Your noticing is beautiful! It's all compost for the times you will come to the keyboard...
